Heat Pumps and Brew Cycles and Filter Baskets! Oh, My!

This morning I declared a 'State of Emergency' for the Billingsley house. My coffee maker finally died! Mr. Coffee had been, in the words of my Grandma Sipe, 'on the fritz' for some time now. So, I knew it was coming. But that doesn't necessarily make it any less devastating. I was just hoping I had a bit more time. If you know me, you know that coffee is not something I take lightly, so selecting a replacement maker will be somewhat of an ordeal. I was quite attached to mine and they don't make it anymore. Those of you who were familiar with it (mainly Chase and my mom) might be thinking 'What? Grieving the loss of that old janky thing?' Well, sure Mr. Coffee was quite old and he may have had some quirks, but to me he was perfect. So now I'm on the hunt for a new machine. I prefer a stainless steel carafe (keeps the coffee hot w/o turning bitter) and a flat bottom filter basket. And it must be programmable. I don't need a built in grinder (I use a separate grinder because I like to control the grind settings). Anyhow, I've been doing a little online research. I think I like this one. Not a stainless carafe, but, it is red! To me, a red kitchen appliance is something to get excited about! I suppose I can always get a separate carafe (I like this fancy one!). Now my mission is to find it for less! Because a good bargain is also something to get excited about!

What am I doing for coffee in the meantime? Well, If I can't make it here or here or here or in a desperate pinch even here, I'm sticking with tea!

We received at $120 Bunn coffee maker for our wedding. A friend of mine from high school works at their factory. We gave it away. Just give me some Teavana Monkey-Picked Oolong tea (which we can't afford to purchase) and I will be a happy girl!

I'm toasting your loss with a mug of joe from my Cuisinart Grind n Brew. Your machine was janky, but it did make good coffee.

I suggest looking for refurbished models from online retailers like Amazon. That's where I found mine for like $60.

chelsea - i'm intrigued by that tea. it sounds good. a good oolong tea can be pretty pricey. do you think monkeys really pick it?? ;)

chase - are you still enjoying the grind n brew? my mom likes hers a lot. my dad thinks it sounds like an air raid when it grinds. i guess it is pretty loud.
and, thanks for the refurb tip! i didn't think of doing that!

how awful! i love coffee as well, although i don't think i'm nearly the afficionado you are :) , so we just have a regular ol' mr. coffee maker. i hadn't considered that a stainless steel carafe would be the way to go... but it makes sense! i switched to decaf when i was pregnant and thus, have not been drinking as much coffee since (it does NOT taste the same!). but i guess i will finish out my bag of decaf dunkin' donuts eventually... good luck on your quest!

Yeah...I'm sorry, but tea is way better. And, though pricey, a good oolong is delicious!
